My Foot Part I: Decreased Mobility, Maximum Frustration

To burn off the average amount energy consumed by eating in a day, a person would normally need to walk a total of 10,000 steps. The idea is that if one’s ordinary output equals the amount of energy consumed, one can be almost assured of a healthy lifestyle, exercise notwithstanding. Achieving 10k steps is pretty easy if you are a shopaholic – 2 hours in a mall can easily make up 8,000 steps. Being in crutches however is an entirely different story.

I injured my ankle last week in a 9600 futsal meet. I turned around anticipating the ball and I heard an almighty crack as my left ankle beared my entire body weight. While RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate) soon ensued thanks to Vedder, a visit to the hospital the following day confirmed no broken bones or fractures; only a torn ligament. Opting for no crutches but rest instead, I hobbled back home.

Ligaments in the foot

While the next few days were pretty agonizing, I could get along pretty well – after all, driving an auto only requires your right foot. But a recent trip to the hospital for a second opinion bore bad news: I had torn not one, but three ligaments in my ankle and my tendon too. How severe was the injury? A 4cm spacing between my ankle and the rest of my foot which comes pretty close to the xray below:

Ankle X-ray

So to facilitate the healing of my ATFL, PTFL and whiz-bang-gob-smack other ligament, I am now in a cast and on crutches for the next six weeks! Woot! Staying at home pretty much sucks… but on the brightside, with a bunch of DVDs to watch and enough electronics and web projects I should be well occupied. Getting around is a bitch though, I think anybody on crutches before would know the feeling. Worse is attempting to walk hobbling upstairs using crutches – I keep on stubbing the toes on my right foot. But oh well, I’ll learn how to appreciate mobility and what not after this episode right?

Anyway, here are some photos from the ward when they bandaged up my banged up foot taken with my trusty K750i – God I love this phone! Just click on it to maximize.

The BBC is asking you to pick your top XI to run the world! I went through the list of people and this is my list:

BBCTest

Lets analyse my list there for a brief moment there shall we?

Quite possibly, the only reason Chomsky’s up there is because of those lectures of his I downloaded post-Iraqi invasion. Quintessentially, I was convinced by his ramblings. Which makes the absence of Michael Moore suprising in my list. Well, BBC wanted a Thinker so Mr C it was.

Mr and Mrs Clinton are there because I like them. A husband & wife team would probably make for good team dynamics (or not whichever way you see it).

Which brings me to the seemingly strange dynamic duo of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs of M$ and Apple respectively. My rationale is that when their bickering gets too much for the others to handle they’ll bitch slap the both of them and ask them to run Linux instead. Woot!

Tun Mahathir is there because Malaysia Boleh but working on this “group dynamism” theme that I put forth makes you wonder why I didn’t put Soros on the list. Similarly, I was itching to put bin Laden and Bush just for the sake of ironies but the both of them would probably try kill each other before, during and after every meeting.

Last but not least, Geldof and Bono are for annual Live 8 concerts to be held as often as possible (and in KL please!) while Pele ensures that Football be the official sport of the world. Time to outlaw clubs from being owned by billionaire Russians (or American leprechauns) I say! The fans should own the game!

Who do you want to rule your world?

It’s Here !
