Pc Guide Part 1

Wanted to do this for quite some time now… cause I’ve been doing the same tweaks to more than a few PCs for the past few months.

1. Update Your Windows.
-Every week if you’re free. Every fortnight to be safe. Every month if you’re pushing it.

2. Update Your Antivirus.
-If you don’t have one, and you’re still able to read this, I salute you. salute
-Every week would be nice. Every fortnight to be safe. Every month and you’ll still probably get away with it.
-I use AVG. It’s free and it works.

3.Update Your Adaware, Spyware Search & Destroy
-You don’t have to keep it installed. Just update and use every once in a while.

4.Stop using IE.
-Use Firefox or Opera
-Firefox is free. Opera isn’t.
-I’m using Opera.

5.Use msconfig to turn off all your stupid startup items.
-It’s mostly safe to turn off all startup items except systray.
-Laptop users might wanna keep their hotkey utility on if they so wish.

6.Use Bittorrent and/or DC++ for all your p2p needs*
-Cause it’s fast and reliable.

7.Use KLite Mega Codec Pack for all your codec needs*
-Cause you won’t need anything else. Ever.

8.Get a hosts file to stop ads*
-All you need to know is that it stops ads.

9. Get something to clean up your registry
-I use Regseeker.

10. Configure your system restore.
-You don’t really need more than 1 GB on your system drive. Can probably turn it off on other drives.

11. Configure system properties.
-You either make it pretty or make it fast.

I might or might not be updating this, or adding a permlink, depends on how you people like it. Cause it can get annoying when too many people come up to you and say “How to make my PC faster ?”

*: I won’t be held responsible if anything cocks up. Or if any legal issues should arise from using programs recommended in this guide.
