Quicktime is Evil

Apple Quicktime is probably one of the more legit applications sitting on my computer at the moment. You see, if you were just an ordinary computer user you’d have no choice but to use Quicktime to play those elusive .mov movies and to view those wonderful trailers at www.apple.com/trailers.

However, I came across one big problem. Every single time I used QT to view movies in my browser, the movie would automatically load fullscreen. While this isn’t a bad thing per se, it is bloody annoying. First of all, ‘cause you can’t click anything. No menu whatsoever pops up whether it be right-click, left-click, double-click or single click. The only thing clicking is the banging sound of the keys of my keyboard whilst I ferociously wave my third digit in the air.

Secondly, the annoyance factor simply triples ‘cause the only way to exit the bloody fullscreen, slow-loading movie is to hit Alt-F4. Which effectively kills your browsing experience (Nooo I had 18 Mozilla Firefox tabs open!).

Anyhoo… since there were NO solutions whatsoever to the problem on google or the Apple website, I did a bit of tinkering of my own and solved the problem to my Apple Quicktime movie browser playback always fullscreen problem. Oh, my choice of words is intentional: google search catch-all link whoring hehe :)

Quicktime Idiotic Problem

The solution? UNCHECK the DirectDraw options under Quicktime settings > Video Settings and keep them on Safe Mode. Must be a video card setting related problem there too; ALL DirectDraw = fullscreen maybe? Doh!
