Hiatus @ Cairo
— posted at December 13th, 2003 by zaaba in BlogWell, after a hectic week with work and seminars and all, I’m off to Cairo for a family trip! Woot! No more wet Manchester, no more abysmal weather and certainly no more internet (not that this would signify anything substantial to this website anyway huhuhu).
Had Fariz and Redha over at the house on Monday till Thurs. I forgoed my United v Stuttgart (cue for Glory Glory Man United) tix for Fariz who, being a Newcastle fan, refused to wear my United jersey to the stadium. Alan and Redha got their jerseys signed after the game by O’Shea and Ferguson while my jersey remained at home due to silly Toon army loyalty. Lawak sial (pun intended heh :). What a cow.
Pere arrived on Thurs and Smq and Firdaus on Friday. My house closely resembled a refugee camp, with good food available nearby. As Cheng Wan would attest to, Rusholme and the Curry Mile is the bomb. I think I’ve been more times to restaurants and kebab stalls in Rusholme this week that I have ever been since I got here. Not to say that I don’t like the food or am getting sick of it. I’d rather be here than your atypical white mat salleh town.
Lessons learnt this week:
- Insist that sales persons stuff your pillows even when they say that the pillow case can’t be stuffed.
- Always make it a point to REMEMBER PEOPLE’S NAMES AND FACES… especially ones who are under the same scholarship as you LOL
- Own an umbrella.
- Bring an umbrella when you’re out on the town in Manchester.
And lastly, here’s a techhy tip for the day:
To test whether your antivirus works or not, copy and paste this string in a file in Notepad (if you bothered to read the readme then you’d know this heh).
X5O!P%@AP[4PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*And rename the file to
eicar.com(make sure noteicar.com.txt). Your antivirus should detect and automatically delete the file. If not, then your antivirus installation ran into a problem.

Have a great holiday people, and Merry Christmas too to those who celebrate.
/me is going to join some camels on the dunes.
