Stupid Juniors

Shame! Shame! Shame!

Students, two armed with parangs, intimidated a warden of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar recently, in an incident which has been denied by the principal of the renowned boarding school.

Read the rest of the NST article here.

Don’t these idiots have other better things to do? No brain issit?

If you are wondering what the fuss is all about, it’s regarding some idiot juniors of mine in my old alma matter. After being whipped by the warden for loitering after midnight, they thought it’ll be wicked to teach the particular warden a lesson by brandishing parangs. That’s ASSAULT goddamit… a criminal offense!

Obviously MCKK was not to be outdone by STAR.

Baka!

/me wonders if any of the stuff that happened (or will happen) in KTJ would ever get out. Briggs leak stuff to media? Methinks NEVER.

Upgrade Again…

Alrighty… td.com has just received another backend upgrade from Wordpress 0.71 to 0.72 Beta! Pretty new stuff… and a temporary new skin until the remaining creases in the backend and design get underway. If you miss the old version 2 layout, leave a comment and we’ll deliver as soon as we can.

On The Road To Recovery

6 days of fever = not good. Especially when you have a truckload of pills to swallow everytime you finish a meal. And it doesn’t help either that each pill is the size of a mini-football. Digressing, WHY DO MOSQUITOS EXIST? They serve no other function that to bother the fuck out of you at night and to suck parasitically at your blood.

Plus, they give people the nasty occasional dengue scare.

On a lighter note, I stumbled upon what I would call; a stash of nice… heh… nice webcomix while I was sick. Check out Sexylosers here.

Oh, and to top it all off… here’s the #1 reason why you should NOT show your girlfriend off (where applicable).

... and if the above happens, whatever you do, do not bring her around :P

Worm Alert - MSBlaster!!!

— posted at August 13th, 2003 by zaaba in Blog

If your computer is experiencing a nasty bout of “RPC terminated unexpectedly” errors initiated by NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM, then you computer might well be infected with the latest Microsoft targeted worm MSBlaster a.k.a. LoveSan. What’s unique about this worm is that it doesn’t spread through emails!

Symptoms include a warning issued by your computer that due to the Remote Procedure Call being terminated unexpectedly, you’ve got 1 minute to save your work and restart your computer.

Stupid RPC Bug

I may not be a full-fledged sysop or security expert, but as far as I know… this worm is pretty fucked up. The ironic thing is, Micro$oft issued a patch in JULY but did many of us take heed? Hmm… I can reasonably expect a zero show of hands. I shall not bore you with the technicalities of the worm, as you can read all about it here at eWeek.

Right… now to solve the problem. As a temporary measure you might just want to input “shutdown -a” at the run (Start > Run) menu to disable the stupid countdown. If you are running XP, then get the patch here from Microsoft’s website. Do not be alarmed if you cannot use the traditional WindowsUpdate feature on your XP box to download the patch though. MSBlaster eats up bandwidth and amongst its primary targets is the WinUpdate website to incapacitate the ability for users to download the necessary patch.

[Edit: 14.08.03 @ 6:28am]

That’s not the end of it though. The next thing to do is to remove MSBlaster from your compie. Go to Start > Run > msconfig then go to the Startup tag. UNCHECK all entries with msblaster.exe on it then reboot.

After rebooting, do a system search Start > Find > Files or Folders for msblaster then delete them. Also remember to empty your rubbish bin. They will most likely be in your C:windowssystem32 and C:windowsprefetch folders (where I found mine).

We at td.com strongly recommend getting a firewall and/or a port monitor (to particularly shut down port 135) AND anti-virus software to ensure your compie stays clean. Ayooo… cheap what only RM5 hehehehe…

Of All Things New

Hmm… td.com has been experiencing random bouts of down-time lately. I don’t really know for sure what’s causing it… must be hiccups in the new server. In fact, the subdomains like Vedder’s Website don’t even want to resolve sometimes and myhq.com. Oh well, I’m sure the whole process will stabilize in a few weeks or two.

Digressing, the past few weeks have been spent working in a law firm at Wisma Denmark. Got myself RM400 in the process and a bonus of RM250 from winning the firm’s foosball competition. Not bad for 1 month! Hahaha! To say that I’m really sick of foosball now would be an understatement, but that does not stop me from frequenting the various foosball pockets around KL like Sports Planet @ Midvalley, Breakers @ Hartamas and Some Sleazy Lesbian-esq Congregational Support Group Pool Parlour @ Subang. While I cannot testify to the sexuality validity of some patrons in the last venue, their antics are what one would call ‘paramount’ to significant eye-candy hence the long-winded description.

Recently, I bought myself this book:

Designing With Web Standards

which was a great read. I’m currently in the process (yeah… how long will THIS new iteration take eh Zaaba? LOL) of upgrading td.com to it’s new version featuring Brickchick @ Irma, a CSS/Tableless layout and a whole bunch of new stuff. Seeing that I’m no longer working at the Cheah, Teh & Su and fulfilling my role as an absolute bum for the remainder of the holidays, I’ll see to it that the upgrade doesn’t take longer than necessary (yeah right…).

I also bought this new baby:

Sony DSC-F77

whose model name sounds more like an aeroplane than a camera. Haven’t played around with it yet… but it’s shapely curves and fantastic load-up time are the main reasons why I bought it in the first place. Look forward to a review soon as there aren’t that many around except here: Sony DSC-F77 review.
